OpenFAST

Available Versions:

version 4.0.2 / version 3.5.2

OpenFAST is a highly customizable open-source wind turbine dynamics simulation tool. It allows engineers to analyze a range of wind turbine configurations and model them on land or offshore on fixed or floating substructures.

With Inductiva, you can easily run hundreds of OpenFast simulations simultaneously and slash your development time to a fraction. Use the power of the Cloud to explore ever larger design spaces and achieve better results, while keeping your costs in check.

How to Run OpenFAST on the Cloud

Running your OpenFast simulations on the Cloud is easy. All you need is to create a short Python script that points Inductiva to the simulation artifacts you have on your computer, and we will take it from there.

On the right, we show how to use the Inductiva API to send an OpenFAST simulation to a machine hosted on Google Cloud (GCP). You can copy paste this Python script and adapt it to your own case.

For more information on the available OpenFAST commands — including openfast, FAST.Farm, and others, see our detailed tutorial.

                            """OpenFAST example."""
import inductiva

# Allocate Google cloud machine
cloud_machine = inductiva.resources.MachineGroup( \
    provider="GCP",
    machine_type="c4-standard-4")

# Initialize the Simulator
openfast = inductiva.simulators.OpenFAST()

# Specify the OpenFAST commands you want to run, separated by commas
# Example using the 'openfast' command
openfast_commands = ["openfast my_file.fst"]

# Run simulation
task = openfast.run( \
    input_dir="/path/to/my/openfast/files",
    commands=openfast_commands,
    on=cloud_machine)

# Wait for the simulation to finish and download the results
task.wait()
cloud_machine.terminate()

task.download_outputs()

We’ve got 20 simulators ready for you to explore.

Just one click away from running your favorite open-source simulators on the cloud and at scale!
