WAVEWATCH III

Available Versions:

version 11-2024 (based on the source code from the WAVEWATCH III repository as of November 2024)

WAVEWATCH III is a numerical wave model developed by NOAA/NCEP that simulates the behavior of ocean surface waves. It solves the spectral action density balance equation for wave modeling and includes features for shallow water and surf zones, enabling application in diverse marine environments.

With Inductiva, you can speed up your WAVEWATCH III simulations by sending them to Cloud machines with hundreds of cores and terabytes of disk space.

How to Run WAVEWATCH III on the Cloud

Running your WAVEWATCH III simulations on the Cloud is easy. All you need is to create a short Python script that points Inductiva to the simulation artifacts you have on your computer, and we will take it from there.

On the right, we show how to use the Inductiva API to send a WAVEWATCH III simulation to a 180 vCPU machine (c3d-highcpu-180) hosted on Google Cloud (GCP).

You can copy paste this Python script and adapt it to your own case. Your simulation will start right away, without waiting in a queue.

                            """WAVEWATCH III example."""
import inductiva

# Allocate cloud machine on Google Cloud Platform
cloud_machine = inductiva.resources.MachineGroup( \
    provider="GCP",
    machine_type="c3d-highcpu-360",
    spot=True)

# Initialize the Simulator
wavewatch3 = inductiva.simulators.WaveWatch3( \
    version="11-2024")

# Define the commands to run the simulation
commands = [ \
    "ww3_grid",
    "ww3_prep",
    "ww3_shel"]

# Run the simulation
task = wavewatch3.run( \
    input_dir="/path/to/my/wavewatch3/files",
    switch="Ifremer2_pdlib",
    commands=commands,
    on=cloud_machine)

# Wait for the simulation to finish and download the results
task.wait()
cloud_machine.terminate()

task.download_outputs()

We've got 29 simulators ready for you to explore.

Just one click away from running your favorite open-source simulators on the cloud and at scale!
