Generate a TurbSim Dataset

TurbSim is a stochastic, full-field turbulence simulator designed to generate realistic and complex turbulent inflow conditions for wind turbine simulations.

Intended for integration with inflow models in software like OpenFAST, TurbSim goes beyond standard models to provide detailed representations of the wind field.

By supplying these advanced inflow conditions, TurbSim significantly enhances the accuracy of simulations performed by tools like OpenFAST. This enables a more detailed analysis of wind turbine behavior, structural loads, power production, and control system performance (particularly under scenarios influenced by coherent turbulence structures).

In this tutorial, we will demonstrate how to use the Inductiva API to efficiently generate a TurbSim dataset in parallel. This approach facilitates rapid creation of diverse inflow conditions, allowing thorough evaluation of wind turbine performance across a wide range of realistic turbulent scenarios within OpenFAST simulations.

To demonstrate this, we will use the 5MW_Baseline wind example, which is available in the OpenFAST GitHub repository.

This example is based on the reference case described in "Definition of a 5-MW Reference Wind Turbine for Offshore System Development".
